Winner of the 2025 Institution of Structural Engineers NI Judges’ Award for Structural Artistry.
The 1774 Pavilion, a striking architectural feature designed by the award-winning Studio Idir, founded by Old Scholar Aisling Rusk, commemorates the 250th anniversary of Friend's School, Lisburn. This unique space functions as an open-air venue for pupils to showcase their musical and creative talents. Beyond performances, it serves as a versatile space for recreation and outdoor learning, enriching the school's community experiences.
Winner of the 2025 BCSA Structural Steel Design Award. Judges' comment: 'Imaginatively conceived, with full involvement of the school and its leadership, and thoughtfully delivered, this deceptively simple canopy exemplifies the remarkable potential of weathering steel no matter the scale. The clearly legible folded plate structure creates an elegant form which maximises the pedagogical value of the project and provides a new focal point on the campus.'
Winner of the 2025 Institution of Structural Engineers NI Judges’ Award for Structural Artistry — a distinction not presented annually, reserved only for projects that meet the Institution’s strict criteria.
