Splash

Architect

OJQ

Splash is an outdoor waterpark located in a dormant quarry in the heart of Northern Ireland. This project involved the design of a welcome building, covered changing area, cantilevering jetties and site retaining walls. The welcome building superstructure consists of exposed steel portal frames with stability provided by portal action and steel diagonal bracing anchored into the bedrock below. Steel outriggers cantilever off the front columns to form the external balcony providing unobstructed views of the lake below.

For the changing building steel portal frames provide stability in both directions to ensure unobstructed access to all areas of the open walled building. The changing area leads to jetties which seamlessly cantilever over the edge of the quarry to provide safe access to the lake. A power-floated concrete floor with a non-slip finish was specified to all ground floor areas.
